Urban Eye Security (“Urban Eye”, “we”, “us”) of St. Ellis Building, Wabera Street, Nairobi CBD, Kenya, is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. It covers shop.urbaneyesecurity.co.ke and explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
What we collect
- Quotation requests and enquiries: your name, company, phone or WhatsApp number, email address, site location and type, the products and quantities you are interested in, and anything you tell us in your messages.
- Trade account applications: business name and registration, the type of work you do, your operating area, the contact person, and the certifications and project references you choose to share.
- Customer accounts: your name, email address and the history of your quotations and orders.
- Orders: collection or delivery details and payment references. We do not store full card details.
- Support and warranty: model numbers, serial numbers and the photos you send us.
- Where an enquiry came from: when you send a form, it records the page you sent it from, the first page you visited, the website that linked you to us, and any campaign tag in the link. We use this to understand which pages and links bring enquiries. It is not used to track you across other websites.
Why we use it
- To reply to you, usually on WhatsApp, and to prepare quotations you asked for
- To assess trade account applications
- To supply, deliver and support the equipment you order, including warranty claims
- To keep the records Kenyan law requires, such as tax records
- To keep this website secure and working
We do not sell your personal data.
Why we are allowed to use it
- Your request: replying to an enquiry and preparing a quotation.
- A contract with you: supplying and supporting the equipment you order.
- Legal obligations: for example, tax records.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping the website secure and improving our service.
Cookies
This store runs on Shopify, which sets the cookies the store needs to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your enquiry list, and records basic visit statistics. We do not currently run Google Analytics or advertising pixels on this store. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
Who we share it with
- Shopify, which hosts this store and processes its forms and customer accounts
- WhatsApp (Meta), when we message you or you message us
- Our equipment suppliers, only the details needed to fulfil an order or a warranty claim
- Couriers, the delivery details needed to deliver your order
- Payment providers such as Safaricom M-Pesa and banks, to process payments
- Police or other authorities, where the law requires it
International data transfers
Shopify and Meta may process data on servers outside Kenya. Where personal data is transferred outside Kenya, we rely on providers that maintain appropriate safeguards, in line with section 48 of the Data Protection Act, 2019.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and quotations that do not lead to an order: deleted or anonymised within 12 months of your last contact with us.
- Trade account applications that are not approved: deleted within 12 months.
- Customers and orders: kept for as long as warranty support needs and for the period Kenyan tax law requires.
How we protect it
Access to enquiry, customer and order data is limited to the people who need it to do their work, using accounts with access controls.
Your rights
Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:
- Be told how your personal data is used
- Access your personal data
- Correct or delete it
- Object to or restrict how it is used
- Ask for it in a portable format
- Withdraw consent you have given
To make a request, contact us using the details below. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) if you believe your personal data has been mishandled.
