What this is for
Eight PoE+ ports on a 53 watt budget, and that budget is the number that decides what you can actually connect. Across eight ports it gives you about 6.6 watts per camera, so it runs eight of the low-draw infrared models comfortably but will not power eight full colour cameras: four InSight S445s at 12 watts each already reach 48 watts. Plan the camera mix against the budget before you order rather than after.
Records up to 8MP per channel to a single drive bay, plays back eight channels in sync, and drives a 4K monitor over HDMI with simultaneous VGA for a second screen. Two limits worth knowing: live decoding caps at eight channels at 2MP or four at 4MP, so a full set of 4MP cameras will not all display at full resolution on the local monitor at once, and both the uplink and the PoE ports run at 10/100 Mbps rather than gigabit. TP-Link's current page lists drive support up to 16TB while the original datasheet says 10TB, so confirm the hardware version if you are fitting a large drive.

Powers and records up to 8 VIGI or ONVIF cameras over its own PoE ports. The 53W budget covers eight low-draw infrared cameras; full colour, PTZ or 4K models need some cameras powered from a separate PoE switch.
