What this system protects
A defined access control scope for apartment blocks, gated courts and mixed residential developments in Nairobi. It covers the pedestrian entrance, the vehicle gate, the lift or stair core, and the back of house doors that most developments leave open.
It is built on an ICT Protege WX controller in a locked cabinet, ICT tSec card and phone readers at the doors, and Suprema fingerprint or face terminals only where a door needs biometrics. Protege hardware is supplied on order through our Kenyan distributor.
Three decisions shape it. All lock relays sit inside the locked controller cabinet rather than behind the reader, so pulling a reader off the wall outside a door does not release that door. Readers talk to the controller over encrypted RS-485 or OSDP with Secure Channel rather than Wiegand, so credential data on the cable cannot be captured and replayed. Frameless glass doors are clamped rather than drilled, so the glass is not modified and the landlord is not carrying a broken pane risk.
It is set up to keep the doors working through power cuts, with battery backup sized for the door count, and to support data protection compliance: individual administrator accounts, a defined period for keeping access records, and a card or PIN option for anyone who declines biometric enrolment.

- ✓ Electric locking hardware selected per leaf type, including glass door clamps where the leaf is frameless
- ✓ Dedicated power supplies with battery backup sized for the door count
- ✓ Door position and request to exit devices where the door schedule requires them
- ✓ Emergency break glass release on every controlled escape route door
- ✓ Credential enrolment, access level design, individual administrator accounts and handover training for the building manager
- ✓ Escape route doors unlock on a fire alarm signal from the fire panel output

What you get at handover
When we install, this is what you receive before we call the job finished.

- ✓ Door schedule and as installed layout drawing, with the model and serial number of every device
- ✓ Administrator and building manager training on site
- ✓ 12 months workmanship warranty on our installation from the date of commissioning, in addition to the manufacturer warranty on the equipment
- ✓ Optional service and maintenance after the first year, quoted separately
What the quote assumes
If any of these do not match your site, tell us and the scope changes. None of them are dealbreakers, they change the quantity.
- • One controller location serves the building, with a cable route available to every controlled door
- • Mains power and a lockable cabinet position exist in that room
- • Doors are structurally sound and closers work, so a lock that must hold will hold
- • Escape route doors are identified on the drawings before the lock type is chosen
- • Network reachability is provided by the building for remote management, if remote management is wanted
- • Work is done in normal hours with access to the areas on the agreed dates
What we will ask you

- • How many units and how many residents will hold a credential?
- • Do you want cards, phones, fingerprint, face, or a mix?
- • Is the entrance leaf frameless glass, timber, or a metal frame?
- • Do you have a vehicle gate, and is it existing or new?
- • Where is the comms room or meter room the controller can live in?
- • Who manages the building day to day and who will hold the administrator account?
- • Do you need visitor and contractor access recorded, or residents only?
Bidding on a tender?
- ✓ Bidding on a tender that says 'or equivalent'? Send us the specification and we prepare the clause by clause response, highlighted datasheets and bill of quantities for the equipment we supply
- ✓ No charge when the equipment is supplied through Urban Eye. Company documents, bid security and your installation pricing stay with you
- ✓ Where a specification asks for a reader with a built in relay, the readers meet that clause. We wire the lock to the relay in the locked controller cabinet instead, which Suprema also recommends where security matters
- ✓ Wiegand is available where a specification requires it. Encrypted OSDP over RS-485 is recommended and quoted as standard
