What this system protects
A security scope for a retail or wholesale pharmacy, designed around what the Pharmacy and Poisons Board asks for in writing: premises that are secure, narcotic and psychotropic drugs kept in a secure, fixed and lockable storage place with controlled access, and procedures that keep drugs out of unauthorised hands. It covers the controlled drugs storage, the dispensary and the premises after closing.
The Board's concern is not only a break in. Its guidelines require a full inventory of the remaining controlled drugs within 48 hours of discovering a loss, and a report to the police and to the Board. That is hard to do well when nobody can say who opened the store and when. So this scope starts with a record of access to controlled stock, before it adds anything that makes a noise.
It is built two ways, because pharmacies are built two ways. Most retail pharmacies keep controlled drugs in a locked cupboard, not a room, and a door terminal cannot go on a cupboard. There the scope is Ajax only: an opening contact on the cupboard, detection across the dispensary, and a panic button at the counter. Where there is a controlled drugs store room, typical of wholesalers, hospital pharmacies and larger outlets, a Suprema fingerprint terminal goes on that door and every opening is logged by name and time.
The alarm hub also tells you when the mains power goes off, so a power cut is not first discovered the next morning at the medicines fridge. Cameras are quoted as a separate line. This scope is designed around the Pharmacy and Poisons Board guidelines on premises and on the management of narcotics and psychotropic substances. It does not by itself make a pharmacy compliant; that is decided by the Board at inspection.

When we install, this is what you receive before we call the job finished.

- ✓ Store room access tested with each enrolled user, and the access log shown to the superintendent pharmacist
- ✓ Mains power loss alert tested
- ✓ Zone and door schedule, with the model and serial number of every device
- ✓ Training on arming, the panic button, the duress code and exporting the access log after a loss
- ✓ 12 months workmanship warranty on our installation from the date of commissioning, in addition to the manufacturer warranty on the equipment
- ✓ Optional service and maintenance after the first year, quoted separately
What the quote assumes
If any of these do not match your site, tell us and the scope changes. None of them are dealbreakers, they change the quantity.
- • A single shop unit or ground floor premises, with the dispensary behind the counter
- • Controlled drugs are kept either in a fixed lockable cupboard or in a separate store room
- • A store room door is solid enough to take an electric lock
- • Mains power at the counter and at the store room door
- • Mobile coverage from at least one network, confirmed on site
- • Installation is done outside opening hours so dispensing is not interrupted
